I start getting anxious for Spring in approximately November; winter just isn’t my season. And although we’ve had a wonderful winter around here- generally mild climes, wonderful events, lots of family time-I am now past anxious and have moved on to downright antsy for Spring to arrive. A few things are spurring on my excitement: 1) the crocuses I planted in the fall are popping through; 2) the lacrosse season has officially started; and 3) its still light at 6:00 p.m. So my first foray into bulb gardening looks like it might actually work, I am now officially a lacrosse widow, and I don’t feel like I have to hide out hibernating in my house starting at 4:00 every afternoon.

In honor of the coming miracle of Spring (and maybe to encourage it to GET HERE FASTER)- I’ve changed out all the decorations at the store! Snow is so last week and new green grass is all the rage. Annnnnd we have a new case! We’ve rearranged things a bit, opened up some floor space, retired a case or two and I am loving the result. We’ve been lucky enough to have two custom showpieces built for us this winter (He-ey, Steve Morgart: Master Carpenter and Awesome Neighbor!), a new silver display and our new small case. The new case is officially our most technologically modern piece- it has LED lights. And let me tell you, they are pretty darn cool. Literally. More light and less heat. It’s going to make a big difference as we gradually switch all the lighting over; I can almost hear our stand alone AC unit sighing in relief.

Since I have managed to get our Spring décor up early- which some might attribute to impatience, but we are going to credit organization, instead- I want to add a new project for around the store. I’m debating between two ideas; I’ve always wanted to add flower boxes to the windows and I’d like to make new curtains to match the Spring cases. I have curtains to match all my other seasons, but since they are both green, my winter curtains are doing double duty. This is by far the easier project. Before you get too impressed with my sewing wizardry, I promise these are the easiest curtains ever. Four straight hems, one big enough to accommodate the curtain rod on a long side. For a relatively simple project, I enjoy the impact the curtains make in the room. The flower boxes are more complicated; I don’t exactly have a green thumb. Though, my crocuses are coming up so maybe this is my year. The visual impact I am picturing would just be so nice. So, thoughts? Anyone have window boxes? How hard are they to take care of, really?
Here’s the fabric I am considering:

What I want my flower boxes to look like and what I am afraid my flower boxes will actually look like:

I haven’t forgotten that I owe you one more Africa post; it’s coming! And I’m working on putting together a post that follows an original piece being made from start to finish, so look for that, too.
Come on, Spring, we’re ready!
